The Blue Mountains Botanic Garden is located 1000m above sea level at Mount Tomah. It began as a private cut flower farm in 1935 and was donated to the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney in 1970. The gardens have been extended over the years and opened to the public in 1987 – This year is the 30th anniversary. The gardens are absolutely stunning, but a visit should probably be timed to avoid peak periods. It was school holidays when we were there and once again there were tourists galore. Cars were double parked and buses are not allowed to park on the site – they can only pick up and drop off. This one is definitely on the re-visit list, particularly since we discovered they hire out mobility scooters to help people get up and down the hilly site.
There is a visitor centre and a BBQ area and those of us who love gardens could easily spend a day here. At the time of our visits the dahlias were in full bloom and there was an exhibition inside to vote for the best one – this was my choice!
Now it is time to let the pictures do the talking, we only saw part of the garden as it was too steep for Alan to scramble up and down.
